Johnny was surrendered to us in June 2020 when his owner sadly had a stroke and had to move to a care facility without him. Johnny was surrendered with two other cats June (adopted) and Bronson (adopted).

Johnny was very scared and always hiding when he first arrived, although never aggressive with his fosters.

At the start he would hide in the closet all day, but soon Johnny would come out and see his fosters when they walked in. He is quite friendly with them, loves being pet, and now he enjoys sitting on their laps and loves attention and cuddles. He still has a nervous energy though, and sudden noises or movements spook him. He likes to explore around the house and sit with us wherever they are. He plays a bit with a ball or plushy. He can be picked up easily but doesn’t really like being held and will wiggle away. He isn’t getting along with some of the resident cats, so he’s only let out of the room when his fosters are around to prevent a fight, and he doesn’t like being confined to their room anymore. In a house with no other cats to worry about, his fosters are confident he will thrive and be able to let his guard down even more.

Johnny needs a quiet home with no other pets where his humans can spend lots of time with him. He is very sweet and will do great with continued love and patience, and the right environment.

The Avery Foundation is a foster-based rescue that helps stray cats and dogs in need in and around the Ottawa area. All our cats and dogs that are adopted out are spayed/neutered and have had their core vaccinations. Our adoption process involves an application; reference checks, interview and home visit prior to placement – this usually takes a few days to complete.
