June was surrendered to us in June 2020 when her owner sadly had a stroke and had to move to a care facility without her. June was surrendered with two other cats Johnny (available for adoption) and Bronson (adopted). We previously believed Johnny and June to be bonded however, after some time in their foster home we’ve noticed that while they don’t mind one another’s company they don’t seek it out. We believe they would be happy to be adopted together or separately.
June was very scared and always hiding when she first arrived, although never aggressive with her fosters. She still hides in the closet but a lot less than before (she even opens the sliding door to get into it, even if there’s stuff blocking it). She has gotten more comfortable around her fosters, but she won’t come right up to them unless they have treats. They can approach her and pet her, and she really likes pets. She has a habit of “love biting” once in a while when she’s getting nice pets (hard but not breaking the skin), so that’s something to be aware of but it can be corrected. Her fosters have never seen her play. She can be picked up but doesn’t like it (freezes or makes a noise, is scared). She has had virtually no interest in leaving their room although she’s left briefly once or twice and is probably scared of the resident cats but she’s not aggressive with them. She likes to be up high – if she’s out of the closet she’s sitting on a perch, in a pet bed that’s on top of a desk, or sitting a the windowsill.
She needs a quiet home with no other pets where her humans can spend lots of time with her. She is very sweet and will do great with continued love and patience, and the right environment.
The Avery Foundation is a foster-based rescue that helps stray cats and dogs in need in and around the Ottawa area. All our cats and dogs that are adopted out are spayed/neutered and have had their core vaccinations. Our adoption process involves an application; reference checks, interview and home visit prior to placement – this usually takes a few days to complete. If you’re interested in adopting, please apply online at: https://www.theaveryfoundation.ca/adoption/adoption-application/cats/
